PLC Controls Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled PLC Controls Technician to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize automated control systems within a manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for diagnosing electrical and automation issues, supporting production equipment, programming and troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs, and improving system reliability. The ideal candidate has strong experience with industrial automation, electrical controls, and process equipment in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled production equipment to minimize downtime.
Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs using Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, or similar platforms.
Configure and troubleshoot HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, motion control systems, and industrial networks.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and control panel layouts.
Install, wire, and commission new automation equipment and electrical control systems.
Diagnose and repair electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, relays, contactors, sensors, encoders, and safety circuits.
Support robotic systems, vision inspection equipment, and automated packaging machinery.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on automation and electrical equipment.
Assist engineering with equipment upgrades, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate documentation, backups of PLC programs, and electrical drawings.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, GMP, HACCP, and all company safety standards.
Train maintenance personnel on controls systems and assist with troubleshooting complex equipment issues.
Qualifications
Associate degree or Technical Certification in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial Controls, or related field preferred.
3+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial automation and PLC-controlled equipment.
Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi.
Experience with FactoryTalk View, RSLogix/Studio 5000, TIA Portal, or equivalent programming software.
Knowledge of industrial networking including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, or Profinet.
Experience troubleshooting VFDs, servo systems, HMIs, instrumentation, and process controls.
Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Food & beverage, packaging, pharmaceutical, or consumer products manufacturing experience.
Experience with SCADA systems and process automation.
Robotic programming or troubleshooting experience (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, etc.).
Knowledge of SQL databases, data collection systems, and MES integration.
Electrical License or Journeyman Certification is a plus.
